Baby Update

At our 20wk ultrasound, the technician saw signs of hydronephrosis, so they set up an appt for us with a Perinatologist. We had our appt on Friday, and things pretty much went as we expected they would. The doctor confirmed that Baby Girl does have hydronephrosis, like Cam. Her right kidney was showing a lot of dilation, and her left just a little. He also saw an extra "flap" near the bladder--a ureterocele--just like Cam. Thankfully, her situation is not severe enough to have to do anything now. He also confirmed that we should be able to deliver where we had planned.

So, not the best possible news, but nothing we didn't expect. :) The Dr also told us that these things can be signs of Downs Syndrome, so he offered us an amnio. But he also told us that her heart looks perfect (great sign!), and that combined with our family history of these issues and my age she probably does not have DS. But he offered the test in case we wanted it. We decided against it, because we feel pretty sure that her problems are what we've seen and not a result of DS. And even if she did have DS it wouldn't change anything for us.

So, all this means that we'll progress normally. :) We'll do an extra u/s a little later in the pregnancy to check fluid levels and kidney function. In addition, I'll fill her doctor in before she's born and they'll do a few tests in the hospital while she's there, just like they did with Cam. And then we'll go from there. We don't expect any further issues during this pregnancy. :)
