On March 12
th we had Emily's
pre-op
appt with Dr. Cooper. During the
appt we went over the results of the tests done while she was still in the hospital...they were interesting. According to the tests she still has a
ureterocele at the end of her right ureter. BUT she has no reflux and her kidneys are barely dilated. In any other situation the dilation wouldn't be given a second look, that's how minimal it is. We were surprised to hear this, as was Dr. C. Typically, these problems go hand in hand w/
ureteroceles.
Despite this, we decided to go ahead with the surgery for 2 reasons. 1--the tests could be inaccurate. Due to the issues she was having in the hospital (spitting up, holding her oxygen
levels, etc) it's possible that other systems were affected and things didn't show up on the tests. 2--if we leave the
ureterocele alone, it's going to cause her problems at some point. We'd rather get rid of it now and be done with it.
So, we went ahead with the scheduled surgery on March 22
nd.
